Star spinner Rashid Khan makes a return to international cricket after getting selected for Afghanistan's upcoming T20Is against Ireland.

Rashid, who last featured in competitive cricket in the ICC World Cup 2023, has recovered from a back injury that forced him to miss out on the India series and the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024.

Named captain for the three-match T20I series, which starts on March 15, Rashid will pair up with fellow spinner Mujeeb ur Rahman, who is also making his comeback into the national colours after an injury layoff.

The squad is a mix of youth and experience, with players like Ibrahim Zadran, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Mohammad Nabi, Azmat Omarzai, Naveen Ul Haq, and Fazal Haq Farooqi included in the 15-member entourage.

Apart from Gurbaz, Afghanistan have also included Ishaq Rahimi as the second wicketkeeper, while spinner Noor Ahmad has also been selected forming a lethal trio with Rashid and Mujeeb.

Pacer Naveen-ul-Haq, who left his PSL assignment with Peshawar Zalmi, has also made it into the squad.

All matches of the series will be played at Sharjah, where Afghanistan have been playing their home matches lately.

Afghanistan head into the T20Is high on confidence having won the two-match One-Day Internationals series by 2-0 earlier this week.
