Shreyas Iyer Likely To Miss Initial IPL 2024 Matches For KKR: Reports

A player who has been in the limelight for both right and wrong reasons lately is Shreyas Iyer.

Iyer, currently engaged in playing for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy 2024 Final, could end up missing a few matches in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as per a report in Times Of India. 

As per the portal, Iyer's old back injury flared up during his 95-run knock against Vidarbha, for which the batter underwent surgery back in 2023. A close source stated that Iyer felt discomfort and would not take the field on Day 5 of the Ranji contest as well. 


'In danger of missing the initial matches of the IPL' - BCCI Source

 “It is not looking good. It is the same back injury which has got aggravated. It is unlikely he will take the field on Day 5 of the Ranji Trophy final. He is in danger of missing the initial matches of the IPL,” a BCCI source told TOI.

Iyer, who recently got dropped from Board of Control for Cricket In India's Central Contract list, was treated multiple times by Mumbai team physio during his stellar knock. Interestingly, Iyer also complained about his injury during India's five-Test series against England, where the player got dropped after second encounter.

However, the National Cricket Academy (NCA) medical panel gave a clean chit to Iyer, which lead to speculations about the batter's injury concern.
