Travis Head showcased his aggressive prowess as an all-rounder in the World Cup 2023 semifinal clash between Australia and South Africa at the iconic Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Opening the innings for the Aussies, Head displayed a spectacular performance, smashing back-to-back shots and accumulating a commendable 62 runs off just 48 balls.

However, the turning point of Head's innings came in the 15th over when the left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj entered the attack. On the very first ball of Maharaj's spell, he pitched one up outside off stump. Head, attempting a drive, missed the ball, allowing it to sneak through and dismantle the stumps.

The precision of Maharaj's delivery left the aggressive opener bowled out, marking a crucial breakthrough for South Africa.

The dismissal raised questions about the strategic decision to bring on Maharaj, who was initially held back due to the presence of two left-handed openers. Nevertheless, the move proved effective as Head, a dangerous batsman, had to depart, providing a sense of relief for the South African team.

As Travis Head walked back to the pavilion, the score stood at 115 for 3. Marnus Labuschagne stepped in, joining forces with Steve Smith to navigate Australia through the challenges posed by the Proteas' bowling attack.
