R Ashwin In For India’s World Cup Warm-Up Matches; Axar Patel To Be Sidelined?

In a significant development, India’s veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has travelled to the squad, which are in Guwahati, for the ODI World Cup warm-up matches. As RevSportz revealed the exclusive story on Thursday, ardent fans were both anxious and excited after hearing the news.

Ashwin's recent return to the ODIs after more than a year and a half raised many eyebrows. The off-spinner played the first two ODIs against Australia and bowled impressively. The 37-year-old particularly impressed in Indore, where he claimed 3/41 before being sidelined for the final match.

If Ashwin makes the cut in the final squad of India’s World Cup, Axar Patel, in most likelihood, will be sidelined. Ashwin's participation in the warm-ups is going to be the final nail in the coffin for the all-rounder, who is presently dealing with a quadriceps injury, and did not play any of the ODIs against Australia lately. As ESPNCricinfo reported, Axar still requires three more weeks to recover fully.

Notably, Axar has not travelled to Guwahati for the warm-up matches due to injury concerns.

It is important to mention that the last date to finalise World Cup squad is September 28. However, if the International Cricket Council (ICC) permits, the deadline can be extended for participating teams.

India will play two warm-up matches, against England and the Netherlands respectively. The Men in Blue will take the defending champions England in Guwahati on September 29, and face the Netherlands in Thiruvananthapuram on October 3.

The main event for India will get underway on October 8, when they go up against Australia in Chennai.
