Shakib Al Hasan Set To Retire From All Formats After 'This' Tournament

Shakib Al Hasan, Bangladesh's most celebrated and arguably their greatest player has revealed his retirement plan ahead of World Cup 2023. Shakib is leading Bangladesh in World Cup and amidst the drama of Tamim Iqbal's non-selection, Shakib has also made it clear that he will not play any international cricket after Champions Trophy 2025.

Shakib Al Hasan's name will undoubtedly go down as one of the greatest all-rounders to play the game and whenever he does retires, it will be a big hole to fill for Bangladesh. Shakib Al Hasan has said that he will retire from all formats together but will give up each format one by one.  Shakib also confirmed that he will captain Bangladesh in ODI format only till the end of World Cup and is likely to retire from Test cricket after the World Cup.

Shakib has revealed that he will also retire from T20Is after playing the 2024 T20 World Cup and will bid goodbye to the ODI format after Champions Trophy 2025 to be held in Pakistan. 

This is what Shakib Al Hasan said in an interview to T-Sports,

"The 2025 Champions Trophy for ODIs and the 2024 T20 World Cup for T20Is. Tests may be sooner. Maybe (after the World Cup)," Shakib said. "I will retire all at once, but I will stop playing each format one by one. I will announce my retirement after the 2025 Champions Trophy."

Also, with World Cup around the corner, there has been some great drama in Bangladesh cricket with news of rift between Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan making lot of noise. Tamim after his omission from the World Cup squad blamed BCB for their dirty politics while Shakib lashed out at his former teammate, describing him as childish and selfish.

All these aside, Bangladesh have a big task ahead of them as they try to deliver a strong performance in the upcoming World Cup. Also, with Shakib Al Hasan ready with his retirement plans, he would be eager to stamp his authority with a big all-round performance in the marquee event.
