Another day, another controversial piece of news came from the neighbouring country of Pakistan. As per the local media outlet, domestic and foreign players participating in the ongoing PSL season have been denied full payment in salaries until the end of the tournament in late March.

PSL season 9 kicked off last week in full swing back in Pakistan. So far, the tournament has churned out highly entertaining and thrilling games. However, the league has been hit by an unwanted controversy after 'Cricket Pakistan' dropped a bombshell update regarding player remuneration.

As per the media outlet, the players participating in the league, including foreign and local players, have only received 70% of their predetermined contract salaries. Apparently, the rest of the 30% will only be paid once the tournament concludes on March 18.

For the time being, each player with a valid contract with PSL franchises is offered a $50 daily allowance to manage their stay in the state.

That being said, the salary issue between players and PSL owners is not a new affair. Even during last season, rumours of players being denied expected remuneration surfaced on social media.

Additionally, PCB's centrally contracted players have reportedly been playing without monetary remuneration for the past six months.

That being said, as the PSL 2024 season progresses, the issue of payment delays is likely to remain a topic of discussion and scrutiny, with stakeholders closely monitoring developments and advocating for timely resolution of the issue.

The league's reputation and credibility are at stake, and it is imperative for the management to take proactive steps to address the concerns raised and uphold the integrity and professionalism of the PSL.

Pakistan cricket is already in turmoil due to instability in leadership. They cannot afford any more controversies at the moment.
