In a significant development, Prithvi Shaw has officially left Mumbai and is set to represent Maharashtra in the upcoming 2025/26 season (as confirmed by MCA) . The 25-year-old right-handed opener, once considered a rising star in Indian cricket, has obtained a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) and completed his move to the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA), where he will likely form a formidable opening pair with Ruturaj Gaikwad.

Prithvi Shaw Makes Big Move

Prithvi Shaw, who captained India to U-19 World Cup triumph and scored a century on Test debut against the West Indies, had a turbulent 2024/25 season. After being sidelined by Mumbai due to fitness and form concerns during the Ranji Trophy, he briefly returned for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT), scoring 197 runs in nine games at an impressive strike rate of 156.34.

However, he was again overlooked for the Vijay Hazare Trophy and found himself on the fringes of Mumbai’s plans.

With where I am in my career, I believe that joining the Maharashtra team will help me grow further as a cricketer,” Shaw said in a statement. “I am deeply grateful to the Mumbai Cricket Association for all the support over the years. The infrastructure and cricketing intent shown by the Maharashtra Cricket Association in recent years truly impressed me.”

Shaw’s switch also follows his struggles in the IPL. Released by Delhi Capitals at the end of the 2024 season, he went unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction and was not picked up as a replacement player by any franchises. His decision to join Maharashtra could be an attempt to reset and revive his stalled career.

When Will Prithvi Shaw Play For Maharashtra?

Shaw will now participate in the ongoing D.B. Deodhar Tournament, an elite intra-state event conducted by the Maharashtra Cricket Association. The tournament serves as a platform to scout and finalize players for upcoming senior-level domestic tournaments like the Ranji Trophy, Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, and Vijay Hazare Trophy.

In first-class cricket, Shaw has made 4556 runs from 58 matches at an average of 46.02, including 13 centuries. In List A cricket, he has amassed 3,399 runs from 65 matches, averaging a staggering 55.72 with ten centuries. Despite these strong numbers, his form, fitness, and consistency have come under scrutiny in recent years.
