Akash Deep's Sister Shares Interaction With Her Brother Before England Tour
Now, his sister has reacted to Akash Deep's gesture and has shared how the cricketer has been a constant source of support in her journey in an exclusive interview with India Today.
The Indian pacer's sister revealed that she met Akash Deep at the airport before his departure for England and told him to do well for the country and not worry about her. She also revealed that her treatment will go on for six more months, and it is a stage 3 cancer.
"It is a matter of pride for India - he has taken 10 wickets. Before the England tour, we went to meet him at the airport. I told him, 'I’m absolutely fine, don’t worry about me, just do well for the country.' I am in the third stage (of cancer), and the doctor has said the treatment will go on for six more months, after which we’ll see."
Akash Deep's sister also revealed that she had no idea that her brother would talk about her cancer openly, and they probably were not ready for it. She added that Akash Deep got emotional and expressed her happiness about the love he has for the family. Akash Deep's sister also applauded her brother for performing for the country despite a difficult situation at home and stated that he is closest to her in the family.
“I had no idea Akash would say something like that. Maybe we weren’t ready to talk about it publicly, but the way he became emotional and said it for me - dedicating it to me - it’s a big deal. It shows how much he loves our family and me. Given the situation at home, and still performing like that and taking wickets there, it’s a huge thing. I’m the one he is closest to.”
Akash Deep Visit To Hospital During IPL
She also revealed that Akash Deep constantly visited hospital during IPL and expressed satisfaction with how he priortises family despite his busy schedule.
“When the IPL was going on and he was playing for the Lucknow team, I was admitted to the hospital for cancer treatment. Even then, he would come meet me either before or after the matches.”
Akash Deep will now be hoping that he continues to do well in the upcoming games. The next Test is at the Lord's, where he is likely to get more help from the pitch, and his performance would be key as India eye a series lead at the home of cricket.
