The Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2025 auction signalled a generational shift, with cricketing legacy playing a central role in the bidding war. Two young players, the son of legendary Indian opener Virender Sehwag and the nephew of batting maestro Virat Kohli, were snapped up by DPL franchises.
Aaryavir Sehwag and Aryaveer Bag Lucrative DPL Contracts
Aaryavir Sehwag, son of Virender Sehwag and an aggressive right-handed opener like his father, emerged as one of the standout names in the auction. At just 18 years old and currently representing the Delhi Under-19 team, Aaryavir was hotly pursued by multiple teams. Eventually, Central Delhi Kings secured his services for a significant sum of ₹8 lakh.
In another development, Aryaveer, the nephew of Virat Kohli, also entered the DPL fold. A promising leg-spinner, Aryaveer was bought by South Delhi Superstarz for ₹1 lakh. Though early in his career, Aryaveer is considered a strategic addition by the franchise, which is looking to build depth in its bowling unit. He will play under the leadership of Ayush Badoni.
Other Players To Bag Big Money
Among the other players, speedster Simarjeet Singh emerged as the costliest player of the DPL 2025 auction, with Central Delhi Kings going all in to secure him for ₹39 lakh. Singh’s consistent pace and ability to deliver under pressure made him a hot pick.
Not far behind was LSG's mystery spinner Digvesh Singh, who went to South Delhi Superstarz for ₹38 lakh, making him the second-most expensive signing of the auction.
Meanwhile, Purani Dilli 6, one of the semifinalists from the 2024 edition, made a strong statement ahead of the auction by retaining star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant as their marquee player. The team, which had a promising run last year, was eliminated in the semifinals after rain washed out their knockout clash.
With Pant continuing to lead from the front, the franchise is now eyeing a more dominant campaign in 2025.
