Epic Captain's Knock Takes South Africa To A Strong Position

Wiaan Mulder walked out to bat at number 3 after South Africa lost Tony de Zorzi early on Day 1. Soon, they lost the other opener too, but Mulder batted with great authority in his debut match as captain and built a solid stand with Bendingham for the third wicket.

After Bedingham departed, he had another good partnership with youngster Lhuan-dre Pretorius. In both the partnerships, Mulder did not let pressure build on his partners and played lovely shots in all parts of the ground, converting his century to a double hundred in real quick time. He got to his 200 in just 214 balls and by the end of Day 1, he was just 36 short of his triple-hundred.

Eventually, he reached his 300 in the first session of Day 2 and is now closing in on Brian Lara's legendary record of 400 runs. Overall, this captain's knock has taken South Africa to a pole position and Zimbabwe would have to deliver a special effort from hereon to make a comeback in this Test.
