The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has voiced its discontent over BCCI Secretary Jay Shah's early announcement of the Asia Cup 2023 schedule.

The PCB hosted an event on Wednesday, July 19 in Lahore to announce the Asia Cup schedule and unveil the iconic trophy.

The ceremony was attended by some former Pakistan cricketers and members of the PCB's Cricket Management Committee (CMC), led by Zaka Ashraf.

Meanwhile, Jay Shah, who currently holds the dual roles as the president of the Asia Cricket Council and BCCI Secretary, made an early announcement of the schedule on social media.

“The PCB had a clear understanding with the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) (that) it would release the schedule of the Asia Cup, five minutes after the ceremony started in Lahore. But unfortunately, half-an-hour before the ceremony started around 7.15 p.m., Jay Shah had announced it on social media," one reliable source in the board told PTI.

According to an insider within the PCB, Jay Shah's decision to unveil the schedule earlier than expected time greatly diminished the relevance of the PCB's ceremony, held in Lahore.

The source further added that the PCB had communicated its displeasure to the ACC concerning the incident but was informed that it was a misunderstanding from the Asia Cricket Council.

“The ACC's explanation was about misunderstandings over the time difference and all that, but the thing is, India is half-an-hour ahead of Pakistan time, so Jay Shah's announcement was a shock,” the source said.

According to another source within the board, Mr. Shah's early announcement of the schedule might be the result of the unprofessionalism during the ICC annual meeting between him and Mr. Ashraf in Durban.

"It appears as if Jay Shah settled scores after the confusion and questions he had to face over whether he had accepted an invitation from Zaka to visit Pakistan for the Asia Cup matches which was widely circulated by Mazari and the PCB in the media,” the source said.

The long-awaited Asia Cup 2023 is set to commence on August 30 in Multan, where the host nation Pakistan will face Nepal in the opening match. Meanwhile the much-awaited clash between the arch-rivals India and Pakistan will take place in Kandy on September 2.
