The new India opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal continue their top form in Test cricket. Following a record-breaking 229-run stand in the series opener at Dominica, the dynamic duo replicated their brilliance with a 139-run opening wicket partnership in the second test against West Indies, at Trinidad's Port of Spain.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, who impressed everyone with a stunning 171-run debut in the opening Test against West Indies, carried on his fine form, adding another 57 runs from 74 balls. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma also made a significant contribution, notching up 80 runs in their partnership.

With this partnership, Rohit and Jaiswal have etched their names in history, joining the elite club of century-making pairs in an away series. They now share the record with iconic duos like Sunil Gavaskar-Chetan Chauhan, Virender Sehwag-Aakash Chopra, and Sehwag-Wasim Jaffer, all of whom had two-century partnerships in the same series.

Rohit-Jaiswal Breaks 24-Year-Old Record

Not just this, the duo has also become the first Indian opening pair in 24 years to record back-to-back century partnerships in the same series. The last time it happened was way back in 1999 when Sadagopan Ramesh and Devang Gandhi put together a 137-run partnership against New Zealand in Mohali, followed by 162 in Kanpur.

Also with two consecutive century partnerships, Rohit and Jaiswal now stand alongside an elite group of just five pairs to achieve this feat. Virender Sehwag and Murali Vijay lead the charts with three in 2008-09.

The pair of Rohit and Jaiswal is also the first Indian pair to hit 100-partnerships in consecutive innings in the West Indies. It is also the highest opening stand by an Indian pair at Port of Spain, Trinidad.

The all-time highest opening stand at this venue remains with Geoffrey Boycott and Dennis Amiss, who set an impressive 209-run partnership in 1974, closely followed by the Australian duo of Arthur Morris and Colin McDonald in 1955.

At the close of the first day's play, India managed to score 288 runs for the loss of four wickets in the match. Notably, Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Virat Kohli all scored half-centuries. As play continues on the second day of the Test, Virat Kohli will resume his innings at 87 runs, while Ravindra Jadeja will continue from his score of 36 runs.
