The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has finally announced the schedule of the forthcoming Asia Cup 2023, which is to be held in Pakistan and Sri Lanka. As the latest development, the tournament will kickstart on August 30 with the fixture between co-hosts Pakistan and debutants Nepal at Multan.

Meanwhile, the blockbuster clash between India and Pakistan, as touted, will be contested in Kandy on September 2.

As reported earlier, the tournament will be hosted simoustanly in the two nations, which may cause some logistical difficulties. Nevertheless, the group stage and a fixture of the Super-4 stage will be played in two cities of Pakistan, i.e. Multan and Lahore.

Interestingly, apart from the Men in Blue, every team will play at least one of their fixtures on Pakistan’s soil.

Notably, the group stage fixtures that are to be played in Sri Lanka will be contested in Kandy, whereas Colombo will host all the remaining Super-Six games.

The ACC has already notified the marking of teams for the Super-4 stage, meaning India and Pakistan will host A1 and A2 positions unless one of them qualifies. In that case, Nepal would take the knocked-out team’s place. Similarly, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will remain B1 and B2, unless Afghanistan pull off an upset.

India’s fixtures in Asia Cup 2023

The Rohit Sharma-led Men in Blue will begin their campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan at Kandy on September 2 before they take on Nepal at the same venue two days later.

If India progresses to the next round, that is mostly certain - they will play three Super-4 matches, determining whether their chances to qualify for the final.

If Nepal fail to pull an upset, the Men in Blue will face the co-hosts Pakistan on September 10 at Colombo.

Remarkably, the upcoming pinnacle event could see arch-rivals - India and Pakistan - face each other thrice if the two teams succeed in getting to the final.

Nevertheless, the finale of the Asia Cup 2023 will be hosted on September 17 at Colombo.
