Cricket fans are taking unusual steps to secure accommodations ahead of the highly anticipated India-Pakistan match in the World Cup 2023. Due to sky-high hotel prices, fans have begun booking hospital beds as an alternative lodging solution.

Fans come up with unique solution to hotel price surge in Ahmedabad

Reports suggest that fans are resorting to unconventional means considering the exorbitant prices quoted by hotels in Ahmedabad, where the high-voltage contest is set to be played. Some local hotels are reportedly charging as much as Rs 50,000 per night due to the massive influx of fans for the face-off slated for October 15 at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

In contrast, hospital beds, costing between Rs 3,000 and Rs 25,000 for a one-to-two-night stay, have emerged as a more affordable option. Additionally, fans availing of this option not only get to save on accommodation costs but also benefit from meals and medical checkups included in the package.

"Since it's a hospital, they are asking for a full-body check-up and an overnight stay so both of their purposes are fulfilled, saving money on lodging and getting their health check done.” said Dr. Paras Shah, Director of Sannidhya Multi-Speciality Hospital as quoted by Ahmedabad Mirror.

Similar responses are voiced by other healthcare establishments. Dr Nikhil Lala, the Medical Director of Sterling Hospitals, confirmed an increase in inquiries for 24-48 hour stays, especially around the India-Pakistan match date. He mentioned that the hospital is considering new health package offers to meet the demand.

The unconventional trend of fans resorting to hospital beds just shows the unbelievable enthusiasm surrounding the India-Pakistan clash. The city's hospitality sector, especially hospitals, is witnessing a unique surge in demand due to this inventive solution devised by fans to beat the soaring hotel prices. Moreover, it has now also turned into an unusual business opportunity for the city's healthcare industry.

The ICC World Cup kicks off on October 5 in Ahmedabad with a match between the last World Cup’s finalists England and New Zealand. India will start their quest for the coveted silverware on October 8 against Australia in Chennai.
