PCB Chief Selector Inzamam-ul-Haq Backs Babar Azam as All-Format Captain

Inzamam-ul-Haq, who was recently appointed the chief selector of Pakistan Cricket Board for a second term, has shown complete faith in Babar Azam as the skipper of the national team across formats. Haq feels that Pakistan do not need to think of another captain at the moment. The comment comes in the wake up of split captaincy discussions.

For a while now, there have been suggestions of a split captaincy for the Pakistan team. The team's poor form in Tests has led to the idea of splitting red-ball and white-ball leadership.

Here's what Inzamam said about Babar

"See, lot of changes in captaincy is not good. I think Babar is doing great captaincy, and when I was chief selector before, Sarfaraz Ahmed was not captain of all three formats, but he became captain of all three formats later. So, I feel, there should be one captain of all three formats, if he plays in all three formats. So, he should know how he has to take his players forward," Haq told reporters ahead of the ODI series against Afghanistan.

The calls for split captaincy became louder after the team’s 3-0 Test defeat on home soil to England in December last year. Split captaincy has worked well for teams like England, but Haq feels that it is not the right choice for Pakistan.

Pakistan will take on Afghanistan in a three-match ODI series in Sri Lanka from August 22. A three-day camp from August 14-16 will be held at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore before the team leaves for Sri Lanka.
