The once gentleman's game is now witnessing rising temperatures as cricketers seem to be more vocal and less restrained in showing their disagreements with umpiring decisions. 

Baba Aparajith's heated clash with umpires triggered a major debate

This trend, which was evident in international series like the high-profile Ashes 2023 and India Women’s recent ODI series against Bangladesh Women, has now spilled into the Indian domestic circuit.

Shortly after the controversy involving India Women's captain, Harmanpreet Kaur, Tamil Nadu stalwart, Baba Aparajit faced off in a raging dispute with the umpire in a recent TNCA club match.

The altercation took place during a clash between Jolly Rovers CC and Young Stars Cricket Club. Having scored 34 runs, Aparajit was on the receiving end of a sharp delivery by Hari Nishannth that led to an LBW appeal which the umpire deemed out.

However, the umpire's decision didn't sit well with the batter. What followed was a charged interaction with the umpires and a fierce argument with an opposition fielder. 

The situation escalated to the point where the umpires had to step in to diffuse tensions. While Aparajit did eventually exit the field, his reluctance and the prolonged dispute became the talk of the day.

Despite the unruly incident, Young Stars Cricket Club managed to regroup and clinch a four-wicket win courtesy of Sai Sudharsan's commendable 67 off 92 balls.

Notably, in a similar incident, Harmanpreet also made headlines during the series-deciding ODI against Bangladesh last month. Not only did she audibly contest an LBW decision but her act of striking the stumps in protest caught everyone's attention.

Furthermore, the Indian skipper didn’t mince words during the post-match presentation, labelling the umpiring as "pathetic". Subsequently, her sarcastic jibe about inviting the umpires to the trophy presentation was the icing on the contentious cake.

The aftermath for Harmanpreet was a fine amounting to 50% of her match fee and three demerit points on her record for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct.
