Pakistan’s star opening batter, Saim Ayub, was ruled out of the ongoing second Test match against South Africa after suffering a significant injury while fielding on the opening day at Newlands Stadium. The 23-year-old, was forced to leave the field in agony after twisting his ankle during a fielding effort.
The injury occurred when South African batter Ryan Rickelton drove a good length delivery through off-side. Ayub was fielding in the deep, gave chase to the ball, but in the process, twisted his ankle as his left leg buckled under the weight of his body. The pain was immediately evident, and Ayub was unable to stand on his own. He was promptly stretchered off the field and taken for immediate treatment.
Ayub’s injury has also been a big blow to the team, as he had shown great promise as an opening batter in recent months. His stylish stroke play and solid technique had made him one most cherished young prospects in recent time.
PCB Chairman Swift Response To Saim Ayub's Injury
In response to Ayub’s injury, PCB Chairman Mohsin Khan personally reached out to the cricketer to offer his support and express his concern. Speaking with Saim Ayub directly, Khan reassured the player and emphasised the PCB’s commitment to provide all necessary resources for his speedy recovery.
He further confirmed that the star cricketer will be flown to London for specialised treatment. After consulting with doctors, it was decided that the best course of action would be to send the young opener to one of the world’s leading sports orthopedics clinics in London for a full evaluation.
Pakistan as team will want and wish the Saim Ayub must recover ahead of the much-awaited Champions Trophy 2025.
