In the second Test between Pakistan and South Africa at the Newlands Stadium in Cape Town, the visitors are in deep trouble as they have bundled for just 194 runs in the first innings to give the hosts a 421-run lead. It was a disaster with the bat for the Shan Masood-led side were asked to bat again by Temba Bavuma as the Proteas enforced the follow-on.

It is also worth noting that Pakistan ended their innings after nine wickets and returned to the dugout after their ninth wicket fell. The reason behind this change was Saim Ayub's injury.

Notably, Ayub twisted his ankle on day 1 of the 2nd Test while chasing a ball to stop it from going towards the boundary. Following the injury, the physios attended him on the field, and the youngster had to be stretchered off the ground in immense pain.

As a result of the injury, Ayub couldn't walk to bat and Babar Azam had to open the innings for Pakistan in the first innings. Since Pakistan were short of a man, Pakistan were batting with just nine batters.

Saim Ayub Injury Update

It is worth noting that Ayub, who suffered an ankle injury on day 1, has suffered a fractured ankle, confirmed by the MRI. As a result, he is wearing a medical boot to help him walk. Nonetheless, Ayub is out for at least six weeks.

It is a concerning sign for Pakistan as Ayub's injury means that can be doubtful for Pakistan's Champions Trophy 2025 opener as it starts on February 19.
