Pat Cummins Shows Dissatisfaction With Pitch Condition Ahead Of World Cup Final

Ahead of the much-anticipated 2023 World Cup final between India and Australia at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium, Australian captain Pat Cummins has expressed dissatisfaction with the pitch conditions.

Reports suggest Cummins was visibly frustrated during his inspection, noting rough and crude conditions at each end with significant patches in front of the creases and a seemingly concrete-like middle. Upon raising the issue with ground staff, immediate action was taken to roll the deck.

Internal sources indicate the Australian team's concerns about the "rock-hard" middle of the pitch, appearing rough at both ends. Cricbuzz reported Australia's anticipation of a spin-heavy challenge, particularly focusing on concerns over five-meter patches in front of the creases.

However, in a subsequent press conference, Cummins, admitting he's not an expert pitch reader, remarked that the pitch appeared firm and, given recent watering, seemed like a good wicket.

The final will be contested on the same strip used for the India-Pakistan match on October 14. Cummins acknowledged this, pointing out that India, as the home team, holds an advantage due to their familiarity with the wicket.

While confirming its previous use, he mentioned the pitch's high-scoring nature throughout the tournament but stressed the need to wait and see how it performs.

Recalling drama from the New Zealand and India semi-final, where accusations arose over a local curator changing the pitch, subsequent events proved the allegations baseless as the pitch performed well on November 15.

Australia faces not only a formidable Indian team but also the challenge of performing in front of 130,000-plus pro-Indian fans in a packed stadium. India, unbeaten in the tournament, aims to become the first team since Australia in 2007 to go undefeated in a World Cup, reaching their first final since 2011. Amidst pitch-related discussions, both teams must focus on playing the game as per the conditions provided.
