As the eagerly awaited final of the ICC Men's ODI World Cup 2023 looms, with India set to face five-time ODI champions Australia in Ahmedabad, the venue is preparing to pay tribute to the past World Cup-winning captains.

In a special initiative orchestrated by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), all former World Cup-winning captains will be acknowledged and presented with a distinctive blazer at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday.

The felicitation ceremony is slated to occur after the conclusion of the first innings in the final, with the captains participating in a Parade of Champions.

The honorees span from 1975 to 2019 and include Clive Lloyd (1975, 1979; West Indies), Kapil Dev (1983, India), Allan Border (1987, Australia), Arjuna Ranatunga (1996, Sri Lanka), Steve Waugh (1999, Australia), Ricky Ponting (2003, 2007; Australia), MS Dhoni (2011, India), Michael Clarke (2015, Australia), and Eoin Morgan (2019, England).

In the latest update, Sourav Ganguly arrived in Ahmedabad on Saturday, a day ahead of the final, to partake in the ceremony. The 'Prince of Calcutta' was spotted checking out of Ahmedabad Airport upon his arrival.

Additionally, the talismanic former skipper MS Dhoni, who led India to three ICC titles—the 2007 T20 World Cup, the 2011 ODI World Cup, and the 2013 Champions Trophy—is expected to attend the pulsating final against the five-time world champions.

Imran Khan to miss the World Cup final

It's worth noting that the 1992 World Cup-winning captain, Imran Khan, will be absent from the ceremony due to his current imprisonment. Intriguingly, the ICC omitted Imran from the poster for the final day schedule.

The ex-Pakistan all-rounder, who served as Pakistan’s Prime Minister from August 2018 to April 2022, faced arrest on August 5, receiving a three-year prison sentence for illegally selling state gifts, known as the Toshakhana corruption case. Subsequently, the court disqualified him from politics for five years.
