In a remarkable achievement, experienced batter Mushfiqur Rahim has become the first-ever Bangladesh batter to score 6000 runs in Test cricket. The talismanic cricketer attained the feat during Bangladesh's ongoing Test match against South Africa at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka.

Mushfiqur Rahim Regains His Mojo With A Landmark Knock

Mushfiqur Rahim had a disastrous start to the South Africa Tests, with Kagiso Rabada castling him for a cheap score in the first innings. Coming at number five, Rahim departed for eleven runs as Rabada cleaned him up with a beauty.

However, the stylish batters followed it up with a gritty knock in the second innings after the Proteas posted a respectable 308-run total. The hosts had a poor start to their second innings, losing Shadman Islam and Mominul Haque in the same over. After skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto perished for 23 runs, Mushfiqur joined Mahmudul Hasan Joy in the middle.

The batter played an aggressive counterattacking knock, putting the Proteas under the pump. He struck three glorious boundaries for his unbeaten 26-ball 31, bringing up 6000 runs in Test cricket.

South Africa In A Commanding Position In Mirpur Test

South Africa put up a stellar batting effort in their first innings, as Kyle Verrynne's sparkling century powered the visitors to 308 runs. Among others, Wiaan Mulder struck a fighting fifty, while Dane Piedt, Tony de Zorzi and Ryan Rickelton contributed crucial runs. In response, the Tigers lost three early wickets before Mushfiqur and Mahmudul formed an unbeaten stand, negating further hiccup. As a result, the Tigers finished the day with 101 runs on the board, with seven wickets in hand.
