Pakistan registered a much-needed T20I series win against the West Indies recently and are now all set for the ODI series against the same opponents. The experienced batters like Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan are back in the mix, but it is young Saim Ayub who will be key for the visitors.
Saim Ayub Etches His Name Among Pakistan Legends With Superb Start To ODI Career
He displayed great form in the recently held T20I series against the Windies and scored 235 runs in the last ODI series he played for his country. Overall, he has started off his career in the 50-over format with a bang, and has scored 515 runs in nine matches at an average of 64.37.
The southpaw also has three hundreds to his name in the ODI format, and all of them have come on away tours. He has two hundreds in South Africa and one in Zimbabwe, and thus has equalled the great Javed Miandad in the number of ODI centuries away from home.
In 76 ODI matches, Javed Miandad scored 2573 runs at an average of 38.98 and scored three centuries and 16 fifties. Saim Ayub, on the other hand, has played ODI cricket only in overseas conditions. He now has a great chance to go past Javed Miandad in the list of away ODI centuries away from home for Pakistan. Salman Butt and Saleem Elahi are other Pakistan batters who have scored three ODI centuries away from home.
Pakistan Batters To Score 3 Away Centuries In ODI Cricket
Player | Matches | Centuries |
Javed Miandad | 76 | 3 |
Salman Butt | 28 | 3 |
Saleem Elahi | 19 | 3 |
Saim Ayub | 9 | 3 |
Thus, Saim Ayub has made a superb start to his ODI career, and if he continues to perform in the same vein, he might break a lot of batting records. Babar Azam and Mohammad Hafeez are at the top of the list of most ODI centuries for Pakistan away from home. Both of them have six hundreds, and Babar Azam also has a chance to get to the top of the list.
