Namibia all-rounder David Wiese has been appointed as the new captain of the sister franchise of Punjab Kings, i.e., the St Lucia Kings ahead of the 2025 edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). The St Lucia Kings franchise confirmed the same on Wednesday, August 6, i.e., roughly a week prior to the launch of the tournament.

Wiese was appointed as new captain after legendary South African batter Faf du Plessis opted out of CPL 2025 citing personal reasons. It is worth noting that Faf led the St Lucia Kings franchise to their maiden title triumph back in 2024 by outclassing defending champions Guyana Amazon Warriors in a lop-sided final.

David Wiese Replaces Faf Du Plessis As New Kings Captain

David Wiese has been appointed as new St Lucia Kings captain ahead of their title defense in the CPL 2025 season. The 40-year-old will be leading the franchise in the absence of 2024 title winning skipper Faf du Plessis.

Wiese has been part of the St Lucia Kings group since the 2021 edition of the tournament. To date, the Namibia all-rounder has played 26 CPL games for the franchise, aggregating 338 runs in the process from 20 innings and picking up 36 wickets with the ball.

Under his leadership, the St Lucia Kings will be launching their CPL 2025 campaign with a match against Antigua and Barbuda Falcons. The match will be played on Monday, August 18 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua and the action will commence from 4:30 AM IST onwards.

A couple of days later, the St Lucia Kings will go up against the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in match number six of the CPL 2025 season at the Warner Park in St Kitts.
