In an interesting turn of events, Morne Morkel, the former South African fast bowler has resigned as a bowling coach of Pakistan after the Babar Azam-led team crashed out of the World Cup 2023. Morkel who was known for his pace and bounce, joined the Pakistan team in June 2023 with a six-month contract, and after a poor performance from Pakistan's famed bowling attack in India, he has decided to channelise his energies in other direction.

Morne Morkel’s first assignment with the Pakistan team was the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, and there were high hopes that under his guidance, Pakistan would do well in the 2023 World Cup. However, things went pretty downhill from the bowling point of view both in the Asia Cup and World Cup which would have contributed to his decision.

Morkel was previously involved with the Lucknow Super Giants as bowling coach and was also involved with Namibia in their successful 2022 T20 World Cup campaign. It is expected that Morkel will concentrate his energies on his duties as bowling coach of the Durban Super Giants in the upcoming edition of the SA20.

Pakistan, on the other hand, will next travel to Australia for a three-match Test series starting from 14th of December and according to the official press release of PCB, they will announce Morne Morkel's replacement in due course, most probably before the Australia series.
