Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami has joined the Shrachi Rarh Tigers for the upcoming season 2 of the Bengal Pro T20 League. The announcement came during a grand player draft held on Monday, where a record 802 players were picked by 8 teams.
The eight teams that selected their squads were Sobisco Smashers Malda, Adamas Howrah Warriors, ServoTech Siliguri Strikers, Harbour Diamonds, Shrachi Rarh Tigers, Lux-Shyam Kolkata Royal Tigers, Murshidabad Kings, and Rashmi Medinipur Wizards.
Each team carefully chose players, including Shami, to build a strong squad for the highly anticipated season.
Mohammed Shami Signs Up For Bengal Pro T20 League
In the list of 802 drafted players featured the experienced Indian fast bowler, Mohammed Shami. He has signed up for the Shrachi Rarh Tigers and will play the Bengal Pro T20 League season 2 later this year.
Shami’s selection by the Shrachi Rarh Tigers was one of the biggest highlights of the event. His experience and skill are expected to make a big impact on the team’s pace bowling attack.
Interestingly, the men’s Bengal Pro T20 League S2 was initially scheduled for June 4 to June 21. However, CAB postponed it until further notice due to the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan.
This announcement came shortly after the IPL 2025 was also suspended for a week earlier this month due to the same tensions.
Shami Squashes Retirement Rumours
Mohammed Shami has firmly denied rumours of his Test retirement, slamming a media house for spreading fake news. On May 13, the veteran pacer took to Instagram to criticise Oneindia for falsely reporting his retirement. Shami, who last played a Test in June 2023, recently returned to action after injury and featured in India’s 2025 Champions Trophy win. Despite a poor IPL season, his experience could be vital for India’s upcoming England tour.
