The International Cricket Council (ICC) has confirmed the introduction of reserve days for the semi-finals and final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

This decision is taken to reduce the impact of adverse weather conditions and ensure that these crucial matches reach a conclusive end. The ICC T20 World Cup is scheduled to be hosted by the West Indies and the USA from June 1 to June 29, 2024.

T20 World Cup 2024 to feature reserve days for semis and final

Under the new rules, if weather conditions prevent the completion of the minimum number of overs on the scheduled day, the match will continue on the following reserve day.

Specifically, for the group stage and Super 8 matches, a minimum of 5 overs in the second innings is required to constitute a match.

For the semi-finals and final, this requirement is increased to 10 overs in the second innings. This decision taken during ICC's annual board meeting shows the apex-cricketing council's commitment to fairness and the integrity of the game to ensure that teams have a full opportunity to compete, even in the face of weather disruptions.

The ICC T20 World Cup 2024 is set to feature an expanded lineup of 20 teams, divided into four groups. Group A includes India, Pakistan, Ireland, Canada, and the USA, while Group B comprises England, Australia, Namibia, Scotland and Oman.

Group C will see New Zealand, West Indies, Afghanistan, Uganda, and Papua New Guinea vying for supremacy. Group D consists of South Africa, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, the Netherlands and Nepal.

A total of 55 matches will be played across the tournament, including 40 group stage matches, 12 Super 8 matches, two semi-finals, and the final.

Following the group stage, the top two teams from each group will advance to the Super 8 stage. The top performers in the Super 8s will then battle it out in the semi-finals, setting the stage for a thrilling final.
