No Kohli, Rohit; Shubman Gill Included Among ICC Player Of The Month Nominees

In a significant development, the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the nominees for the ICC Player of the Month award for February 2025 on Friday (March 7). India’s star batter Shubman Gill is the sole Indian player in the Men's and Women's categories. Among other nomies, New Zealand’s Glenn Phillips and Australia’s Steve Smith have been included. 

1. Shubman Gill (India)  

In this month Shubman Gill has made  406 runs at an average of over 100. His consistent performances helped India dominate England in the ODI series. Riding high on confidence, Gill continued his rich vein of form in the ongoing Champions Trophy, where he guided India to victory against Bangladesh with a stylish unbeaten 101 runs in 129 balls. His red-hot form also saw him regain the No.1 spot in the ICC Men’s ODI Batter Rankings during February.  

2. Glenn Phillips (New Zealand)  

Glenn Phillips is a talented all-rounder known for his explosive batting and skillful bowling. The Kiwi star played a crucial role in New Zealand’s Tri-Nation Series in Pakistan. He continued his momentum into the ongoing Champions Trophy and made a quickfire 61 runs from 39 balls against Pakistan . In the ongoing mega event, he has made 143 runs across four innings, boasting an impressive strike rate of 140.20 and an average of 71.50. 

3. Steve Smith (Australia) 

Steve Smith led Australia to World Test Championship series victory over Sri Lanka in Galle. The veteran batter put on a masterclass in the opening Test and made 141 runs alongside Usman Khawaja. He followed it up with another superb 131 in the second Test, ensuring Australia’s dominant series sweep. 

However, it is important to mention that Australian batting star Steve Smith has announced his retirement from ODIs following Australia’s exit from the Champions Trophy 2025.
