Gautam Gambhir, who is currently serving as Head Coach of the Indian men’s cricket team, is known for his intense look and no-nonsense attitude. The former Indian cricketer rarely shows any emotions on and off the field in the dressing room, due to which is regarded as one of the most serious cricket personalities ever to come across.

The Delhi-born cricketer has always been very competitive in nature, right from his playing days to now as he wears the coaching hat. His sharp focus and commitment to his role is unmatched and often overshadowed any clear display of emotions.

Does Gautam Gambhir Ever Smile? Venkatesh Iyer Clears The Air

Shedding light on this question, current Kolkata Knight Riders’ all-rounder and vice-captain Venkatesh Iyer has revealed that Gambhir does smile, but only in moments that truly matter. In an interaction with Revsportz recently, Venkatesh, who has played under Gambhir’s mentorship last year, shed light on how much Gambhir’s emotions hold significance relying on the result.

“Very tough to make GG sir (Gambhir) smile. He only smiles when we win. But its just his game face as you know he is very intense and is a fierce competitor and that's why he is regarded as one of the most competitive cricketers or minds of Indian cricket,” Venkatesh Iyer said.

It's not frequent and is generally the way Gambhir approaches every game as a player or coach now. Moreover, the former Indian openers’ personality is such that he reserves his smiles for times when he genuinely feels victorious in the game of cricket.

What About Gambhir's Fun Side?

Besides, Gambhir’s softer side comes out after the game is over or while being with family and loved ones. Venkatesh further revealed how much of a fun loving guy Gambhir is once the game mode is turned off.

“Off the field, he (Gambhir) himself is such a fun loving guy and he is the one who makes everyone laugh, you know. Sometimes it's difficult to comprehend that he is the same guy who sits out there (during a match) with a fierce look,” Venkatesh added.

One of the most recent instances where Gambhir’s lighter side had been seen is during his ongoing Indian coaching stint while interacting with Virat Kohli. Despite having multiple heated moments on the field in the past, the two Delhi men have shared a lot of laughs, be it during training sessions or while sitting in the dressing room between games.
