Former Indian cricketer Sourav Ganguly is currently serving as the Director of Cricket for JSW sports owned Delhi Capitals (DC) in the ongoing Women's Premier League (WPL). While Ganguly’s role is to help the DC players with coaching and mentoring, he was recently spotted batting himself in one of the sessions ahead of DC’s next clash in Lucknow.
Ganguly, who retired from all forms of cricket in 2012, rarely becomes a center of attraction with the bat these days. However, during a routine practice session of DC, the former Indian captain could not stop himself as he seemed to roll back the years, facing throwdowns and playing his strokes, reigniting memories of his playing days.
Coach Ganguly Unleashes Signature Shots In Training
Known for his elegant off-side play, Sourav Ganguly, dressed in training gear, was seen playing his favourite cover drives and wristy flicks in a video posted by the Capitals in several social media platforms. The video clip of him knocking the ball, went viral, with fans reliving the memories of Dada’s batting from late 90s and early 2000s.
While Ganguly's playing days may be behind him, his recent return with the bat has created a wave of excitement among cricket fans. With a lot of former players returning to the field for exhibition tournaments recently, fans wonder if Ganguly will also return in action, at least for an exhibition tournament.
Ganguly's Mentorship Fuels DC's Maiden Title Chase
Coming back to his role in DC Women, the Prince of Kolkata has been doing a tremendous job, mentoring the women's side to what can be their maiden WPL title. Notably, Delhi Capitals have come very close to lifting the WPL, reaching the finals twice but falling short on both occasions.
With Ganguly at the helm as Director of Cricket, there is a good chance for the Meg Lanning-led side to finally clinch the silverware. The Capitals have already qualified for the knockouts, having won five of their seven league games so far. They are currently sitting at the top of the table and will be looking to sustain their place ahead of their next encounter Vs Gujarat.
