Nitish Rana controversies [Source: @OneCricketApp/x.com]
Nitish Rana and controversies are never far away, and the Delhi cricketer once again hogged the limelight, but for the wrong reasons, during the Delhi Premier League (DPL) Eliminator. In a video that went viral, Rana had a heated argument with opposition spinner, Digvesh Rathi, as things turned ugly between the two players.
Despite Rana smashing a match-winning 134 off 55 deliveries, the match would forever be remembered for what transpired between the two players and how quickly the matter escalated. So much so that the umpires had to intervene to stop the argument.
This is not the first time Nitish Rana has been involved in a cricket controversy. Here are 3 incidents where the Delhi cricketer went viral, but for the wrong reasons.
1) The ugly DPL fight with LSG spinner
The Eliminator contest of the Delhi Premier League was going smoothly before the unthinkable happened. Rathi, who is already famous for his controversies in the Indian Premier League, said something to Rana during the match that provoked the batter.
Initially, the two players were having mind-games against one another, but things escalated when Rana reverse-swept Rathi for a maximum, and the LSG spinner responded with a barrage of words which provoked the batter, and in retaliation, the two nearly came to blows.
While Rathi, no stranger to hefty fines, was slapped with 80% match fee slashed, Rana, too, faced the wrath as he was fined 50% of his match-fee.
2) When Rana mocked KKR with 'Loyalty' comments
Before the IPL 2025 mega auction, KKR decided to part ways with Nitish Rana, and released him. The batter was then purchased by Rajasthan Royals, and this is when things went ugly between KKR and the batter.
Rana’s wife, Saachi Marwah, took to social media to subtly criticize KKR, saying, "Loyalty is very expensive; not everyone can afford it."
Rana then posted a story on Instagram with a caption: "Royal-ty is pink!". This didn’t go well with the KKR supporters, as during the match with RR, Moeen Ali dismissed the left-handed batter, and the cameras were panned to KKR CEO Venky Mysore, who gave a wry smile.
3) Mocking young captain, Yash Dhull
Rana was the captain of the Delhi side when the management decided to replace him with Yash Dhull as the new skipper. This infuriated the player, who left Delhi and joined Uttar Pradesh for the Ranji Trophy season. In a match against Ajinkya Rahane’s Mumbai, Rana smashed a brilliant century, and decided to mock Dhull with a fiery celebration, a decision which was slammed by many.
