The IPL mega auction for 2025 has concluded, resulting in significant changes for many well-known players as they left their core teams to join new franchises for the upcoming seasons.

Nitish Rana, a loyal and trustworthy team player of the Kolkata Knight Riders, encountered the same fate as his team, as KKR did not bid for the 30-year-old batter. Instead, Rajasthan Royals acquired him for INR 4.20 crore.

Rana has been a part of KKR since 2018, but the franchise did not retain him. His wife, Saachi Marwah, expressed her heartbreak on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) with a cryptic message. “Loyalty is very expensive, not everyone can afford it.”

It is apparent that her message is directed at the KKR management, indicating that they took Rana for granted and failed to acknowledge his loyalty to the team since 2018.

KKR's most significant acquisition was Venkatesh Iyer, who was bought for INR 23.75 crore, making him the third-most expensive player in the auction. Initially, KKR did not retain Iyer, but repurchasing him at such a high price has sparked speculations among fans and the cricketing community.

Nitish Rana's Departure From KKR

In the 2024 season of the IPL, the team owned by SRK struggled to utilise Rana effectively since he was sidelined with injuries for most matches. Nevertheless, his contributions to KKR's victory in IPL 2024 cannot be overlooked.

Nitish Rana will start off fresh with the Rajasthan Royals, whose most expensive bid in the auction was Jofra Archer, who was roped in for INR 12.50 crore. However, the Uttar Pradesh-born will have to survive a paycut in his salary because of this transition of teams. Previously, Rana earned INR 8 crore with KKR, but as a result of this transfer, his salary will decrease significantly to INR 3.8 crore.
