The Eliminator match of the Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2025 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Friday, August 29, turned fiery when West Delhi Lions captain Nitish Rana and South Delhi Superstarz spinner Digvesh Rathi got into a heated argument.

The clash started when Rathi was hit for a six by Rana and responded with some unpleasant words. Tensions rose further when Rathi pulled out of his bowling run-up, which Rana later mocked by doing the same.

Things really exploded after Rana smashed another six, leading to Rathi hurling abuses and Rana angrily pointing fingers back at him. The two nearly came to blows before umpire Gayathri Venugopalan and other players stepped in to separate them.

Rana and Rathi Punished After Ugly Fight

However, the ugly fight did not go unnoticed, and both players were punished heavily after the game. Rathi was fined 80 percent of his match fees for “conduct against the spirit of the game,” while Rana was fined 50 percent of his match fees for making offensive gestures on the field. They weren’t the only ones penalised, though.

Krish Yadav was fined his entire match fee for using abusive language and provoking the opposition, Sumit Mathur was docked 50 percent of his fees for aggressive gestures, and Aman Bharti was fined 30 percent for swearing during the match.

Despite all the drama, it was Rana who walked away as the hero of the night. He played a breathtaking knock of 134 not out from just 55 balls, guiding West Delhi Lions to a comfortable win while chasing a target of 202. The Lions finished the job with seven wickets in hand and still had 17 balls left to spare. Rathi, meanwhile, had a nightmare outing, giving away 39 runs in only two overs.

With this victory, West Delhi Lions marched on to face East Delhi Riders in Qualifier 2 on Saturday, August 30, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
