Ending a long wait, the ICC Women’s World Cup is coming back as the tournament is set to commence on September 30. As the teams are polishing their last-minute preparation, Bangladesh Women has announced its star-studded squad for the high-voltage event. With the perfect blend of experience and fresh talent, they are set to face the upcoming challenges.

As Bangladesh prepares for its second season of the Women’s ODI World Cup, Nigar Sultana is set to lead the side again. Wicketkeeper-batter Rubya Haider Jhelik, off-spinner Nishita Akter Nishi, and batter Sumaiya Akter have earned spots in the final squad, replacing Dilara Akter Dola, Jannatul Ferdous Sumona, and Ishma Tanjim.

Adding to this, Sumiya was the former Under-19 captain of Bangladesh, and with her unreal consistency, she sealed the place. On the other hand, Rubya Haider Jhelik has received her maiden ODI call-up on the big stage.

BCB’s Chief Selector Backs The Squad

After a forgettable season in the previous edition of the Women’s World Cup, Bangladesh Women are eyeing redemption. After announcing the 15-member squad, Bangladesh Cricket Board’s Women’s Wing Chief Selector Sazzad Ahmed backed them, praising their exceptional abilities in a press release.

“Rubya has earned a place through sheer hard work. Her development over the last six months has been outstanding. We see her as a valuable option both as a reserve keeper and a backup opener,” he said.

“Nishita is consistent, calm under pressure, and her ability to contain left-handers gave her an edge. Sumaiya has been knocking on the door for some time. She brings the ability to occupy the crease and accelerate when needed. With her skill set and fielding standards, she gives us an all-round option in the top order,” he added.

As the tournament is starting on September 30, the Bangladesh Women are all set to start their campaign on October 2 against Pakistan Women. Ahead of that, they will play two warm-up games on September 25 and 27 against South Africa and Sri Lanka.
