In a significant development, West Indies' swashbuckling batter Nicholas Pooran met Lucknow SuperGiants' owner Mr. Sanjeev Goenka ahead of the IPL retention deadline. Notably, the IPL franchises have been asked to submit their final retention list on or before October 31.
Pooran Signs IPL Retention Deal With SuperGiants
According to Cricbuzz, Nicholas Pooran was in the RPSG group's Kolkata office to meet Mr Goenka on Tuesday. The explosive middle-order batter even signed on dotted lines, affirming his commitment to the Lucknow-based franchise.
The report claims Pooran will be LSG's first retention ahead of the much-awaited mega auction. Although the franchises can pay a retained player more or less than the price slab prescribed by the BCCI, it has been confirmed that Pooran will receive an exact amount of INR 18 Crores, two crores more than his current IPL salary.
"Pooran is committed to LSG, possesses a winning mindset, thinks deep and above all he is adaptable to the batting order and any match situation," an LSG official told Cricbuzz.
Nicholas Pooran deserves the pay hike as he has been a valuable asset for the SuperGiants in the IPL. Since joining the franchise, the southpaw has proved his worth as a middle-overs enforcer, amassing 857 runs in 29 innings at an average of 42.85 and a strike rate of 175.98.
LSG's Retentions Finalised; KL Rahul Set To Be Released
As reported earlier, experienced Indian batter KL Rahul won't likely be among LSG's retentions, with the franchise preferring Ravi Bishnoi and Mayank Yadav as their retained capped players heading into the upcoming season. Mohsin Khan and Ayush Badoni will be retained under the uncapped players' category, receiving INR 4 Crores each. Thus, the SuperGiants will spend INR 51 Crores for retentions, while having a solid 69 Cr balance to purchase a minimum of 15 players in the mega auction.
