KL Rahul's future with the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) is hanging by a thread. It turns out that it is Rahul and not the franchise, who might be the one pulling away ahead of the IPL 2025 season.

KL Rahul Didn't Agree To Be LSG's Retention For IPL 2025: Reports

Last season, after LSG suffered a heavy defeat against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, tensions ran high. Owner Sanjiv Goenka was seen having a rather serious conversation with Rahul.

The exchange was anything but warm which sparked rumours that Rahul was considering stepping down as captain. However, those talks disappeared as the tournament went on without any major overhaul.

Come August, KL Rahul and Goenka sat down to discuss the future. But the meeting reportedly didn't end with a handshake on the future. Soon after, LSG held a press conference to announce Zaheer Khan as their new mentor, which raised a few eyebrows.

Rumours started circulating about Rahul’s return to his old side Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Then, just yesterday, word got out that LSG management feels it's time to move on from their star player. While that might be true, it seems Rahul's reluctance to commit to LSG may have forced their hand.

According to a report by ESPNcricinfo, during his meeting with Goenka, Rahul didn't give a clear answer about accepting a retention offer from LSG. His refusal to commit may have been what finally made the franchise decide to part ways.

The Big Question: Will KL Rahul Play For LSG?

As the retention deadline of October 31 at 5 PM approaches, LSG is looking to the future. Ravi Bishnoi and Mayank Yadav are expected to be among their top retentions.

Ayush Badoni and Mohsin are likely to be the uncapped players they secure before the clock runs out. Whether or not KL Rahul will be retained by LSG remains to be seen.

However, one thing is fixed and that is that the IPL 2025 season is going to be full of surprises. LSG and Rahul fans will have to wait to check out LSG’s retention list as the deadline approaches.
