Ace wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan succeeded his long-time national teammate Babar Azam as Pakistan's captain in white-ball cricket. Recently, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi announced Rizwan as the new ODI and T20I captain ahead of the team's much-awaited Australia tour.
Rizwan Accepted Pakistan Captaincy With A Condition: Reports
Meanwhile, according to a report by The Press Trust of India (PTI), Mohammad Rizwan initially hesitated to take up Pakistan's white-ball captaincy. The experienced cricketer apparently set a condition before agreeing to lead the side.
Rizwan wanted his interference in the selection process, urging the PCB selection committee to consult him while announcing Pakistan's squad and playing XI before or during a series.
If this is true, we might see Rizwan drafting some of his preferred players into the mix soon after taking the reigns. Nevertheless, his inputs would strictly be advisory, with PCB's newly formed five-member selection panel taking the ultimate call.
"After discussions with the (Pakistan Cricket) Board chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, and senior selector, Aaqib Javed, Riwan agreed to the new system where his input in the selection process would be strictly advisory," the source told PTI.
"Under the new policy, the selection committee is now responsible for selecting touring squads and the playing eleven," he added.
Mohammad Rizwan To Lead Pakistan In Australia
Led by Rizwan, Pakistan will face the mighty Aussies in six white-ball matches. After three ODIs in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth, the Men in Green will lock horns with the hosts in three T20Is in Brisbane, Sydney and Hobart. The visitors have already announced their ODI and T20I squads, making some significant changes to change their fortunes in white-ball cricket.
