West Indian superstar Nicholas Pooran announced his shocking retirement on Tuesday and it came in as a surprise since no one expected the maverick batter to hang up his boots at the age of 29. He was their most experienced batter and was also the leading run-getters for West Indies in T20Is.

Still at the peak of his power, Pooran made a sudden decision which has left a huge void in the West Indian team. In an Instagram post, the batter thanked Cricket West Indies for their support but he didn't reveal the actual reason for his shocking decision.

Why Pooran retired from international cricket?

In the world of Cricket, India dominates and ICC gets majority of its earning through the BCCI. Cricket West Indies hardly gets any share from the governing body (ICC) and as compared to India, England or Australian players, the Windies cricketers hardly get a decent amount of salary.

However, with franchise cricket coming up, players get a hefty amount of money and Pooran is always a hot commodity in T20 cricket. Any franchise in the world would go after him and hence, this could be a possible reason for the stylish batter to announce his international retirement.

Now, he can solely focus on franchise cricket and could earn tons of money which he wouldn't have earned playing for the Windies. In the past, the likes of Andre Russell and Sunil Narine also shifted their focus towards T20 cricket and Pooran has perhaps followed their path.

What Andre Russell thinks about quitting Test cricket?

“Those guys [India, Australia and England] get lucrative central contracts to play Test cricket and play on the biggest stages, of course, they want to play. West Indians? You might play 50 or 100 Tests and you know, after you retire, there’s not much to show for it,” Russell told The Guardian in an interview.

“Of course, you want the possibility of living a comfortable life and taking care of your family,” Russell said as quoted by Cricket.Com.

(Note: These are just speculations but focusing on franchise cricket could be a main reason for his retirement).
