Nicholas Pooran is arguably the best T20 batter at this moment. The West Indian great has had an outstanding 2024 in the game's shortest format, and has surpassed many greats with his onslaught this year.

Not only in franchise cricket, but Pooran has shown his guile and skills for the West Indian team, especially during the T20 World Cup. In 13 T20I games for the Windies this year, Pooran has amassed 384 runs at at average of 34.90, including two half-centuries, with the best score of 98*.

Pooran surpasses Rizwan's T20 runs tally

The southpaw gained a huge milestone during the CPL 2024 match between Trinbago Knight Riders and Barbados Royals. In the match, Pooran played a great cameo and scored a brisk 15-ball 27, and in the process, he went past Pakistan's Mohammad Rizwan to record the most T20 runs scored in a calendar year.

Pooran is the leading run-getter this year with 2,059 runs in 66 matches, at a strike-rate of 160.85, including 14 half-centuries. Rizwan on the other hand had accumulated 2,036 runs in 48 T20s, back in 2021. During that period, he struck at 132, and had slammed 18 fifties and a solitary hundred.

Pooran's dream 2024 continues

In the ongoing CPL 2024, Pooran has scored 312 runs in 9 innings, at a strike-rate of 175.28, with the highest score of 97. Apart from CPL, he has also shown his hitting ability in other franchise leagues as well, including the IPL and SA20.

In IPL 2024, he slammed 499 runs for Lucknow Super Giants, and was the league's best performer by a country mile. In the T20 World Cup, held in USA/West Indies, the West Indian hitter blasted 228 runs and was the sixth-highest run-getter in the tournament.

In ILT20 this season, Pooran led MI Emirates to the title with a brilliant campaign of 709 runs in 20 matches.
