Pakistan Cricket Board chairman and Asian Cricket Council president Mohsin Naqvi is set to receive a major honour. Reports say he will be awarded the Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Excellence Gold Medal for his firm and bold stance, as praised by the Pakistan public, during the Asia Cup 2025 final.

This comes after a dramatic controversy in the Asia Cup trophy ceremony. Following India’s win, the Indian players reportedly refused to take the trophy directly from Naqvi, who was presiding over the presentation. 

The situation escalated further when Naqvi left the ground with the silverware still in hand, sparking headlines and debates across both countries.

According to Pakistan media, Sindh and Karachi Basketball Associations president Advocate Ghulam Abbas Jamal confirmed that Naqvi will receive the medal as recognition for standing his ground in the face of pressure. 

The award ceremony will be held in Karachi, and organisers have invited PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to attend as the chief guest.

The Shaheed Bhutto Performance Gold Medal is considered one of Pakistan’s most prestigious awards. It is given to individuals whose actions highlight national pride, leadership, and commitment to principles. 

Meanwhile, the Asia Cup trophy controversy continues to make waves. Some media reports suggested Naqvi apologised to the Indian cricket board (BCCI), but he has strongly denied this. 

Naqvi insisted he has never apologised and never will. He clarified that he is ready to hand over the trophy to India, but only if they officially come to the ACC office to collect it.
