The Asia Cup 2025 is finally over, but the controversy kept escalating as things turned ugly after India captured the tournament with a nerve-wrecking win over their arch-rivals, Pakistan. The Men in Blue won the competition by five wickets as Tilak Varma starred with the bat, and Kuldeep picked up a four-wicket haul to dismantle the opponent.
Things turn ugly after IND-PAK Asia Cup final
Even before the start of the finale, tension was high between the two nations, but things got worse in the aftermath as the Indian side refused to take the winning trophy from PCB and ACC Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi. This infuriated Naqvi as he allegedly walked away with the trophy, making a mockery of the tournament.
The players refused to take the trophy from the ACC Chairman, reportedly informing the ACC officials that if Naqvi is on the podium to give the trophy, they would flatly refuse it.
Moreover, when Naqvi was standing on the dias, waiting for the Indian team, the crowd inside the stadium mocked the Chairman, as things turned hostile in the aftermath.
BCCI set to lodge official complaint against Naqvi
With Naqvi running away with the trophy, BCCI Secretary, Devajit Saikia, clearly stated that India had already informed the ACC that they would not take the trophy from Naqvi, and the Chairman taking away the trophy and the medal is an unfortunate thing, and the BCCI will launch a serious protest against this act.
"We have decided not to take the #AsiaCup2025 trophy from the ACC chairman, who happens to be one of the main leaders of Pakistan. So we decided not to take it from him. But that does not mean that the gentleman will take away the trophy with him, along with the medals. So it is very unfortunate and we hope that the trophy and the medals will be returned to India as soon as possible...There is an ICC conference in November in Dubai. In the next conference, we are going to launch a very serious and very strong protest against the act of the ACC chairperson"
Despite the Asia Cup being done and dusted, expect more drama to follow in the coming days as things could further escalate.
