India opener KL Rahul brought up his 11th Test century and only his second on Indian soil, breaking a nine-year drought with a composed knock against the West Indies (WI) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday (October 3, 2025).
Resuming Day 2 on his overnight score, Rahul played with discipline and grace, navigating the early overs of the day before gradually accelerating. He reached the three-figure mark in 190 balls with 12 fours.
It is important to note that KL Rahul’s last home century came in December 2016, when he narrowly missed a double hundred with a career-best 199 against England in Chennai. Since then, the Karnataka right-hander had scored centuries overseas, but a home hundred was not out of reach for him.

With this ton, Rahul has now scored 10 Test centuries as an opener. He also surpassed Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir, both of whom have nine. He now stands behind only Sunil Gavaskar (33), Virender Sehwag (22), and Murali Vijay (12) in the list of Indian openers with the most Test centuries.
Another record that KL Rahul made is that he now has the joint-second most centuries in WTC for India, joining Rishabh Pant and Jaiswal (6 centuries).
India in command at lunch break on day 2
Earlier, India made a strong statement on Day 1 of the two-match series. India’s pace attack led by Mohammed Siraj (4/40) and Jasprit Bumrah (3/42) dismantled the West Indies batting lineup for a paltry 162 in just 44.1 overs.
India’s top order laid a solid foundation. Yashasvi Jaiswal fell for 36, while debutant B Sai Sudharsan struggled in his first outing, managing just 7. Shubman Gill contributed a fluent 50 in 100 balls. At the time of writing this article, KL Rahul has completed his century and alongside Dhruv Jurel is at the crease.
