The Asia Cup is done and dusted, and despite India winning the trophy fair and square, the controversies seem to increase. The Men in Blue defeated Pakistan in a cracker of a contest in the Asia Cup final to clinch yet another title, but the India-Pakistan issue escalated after the event ended.

Naqvi stormed off the podium after the Indian side refused to take the trophy from him. The Men in Blue had already informed ACC that they wouldn’t collect the prize money and the trophy from Naqvi, but the PCB and ACC Chairman remained adamant.

After waiting for hours, a furious Naqvi ran away with the trophy, and it infuriated the BCCI, which are willing to lodge a formal complaint against him. Reportedly, the trophy is with Naqvi, and he is willing to give it to the Indian team if a formal ceremony is organized.

Naqvi breaks silence on Asia Cup trophy controversy

Earlier, there were reports that Naqvi has apologised to the BCCI and is willing to hand over the trophy to them. However, in a tweet posted by him, the PCB Chairman refuted all claims, and stated that if India truly wants the trophy, they should come and collect it from them.

"Indian media thrives on lies, not facts. Let me make it absolutely clear: I have done nothing wrong and I have never apologized to the BCCI nor will I ever do so. This fabricated nonsense is nothing but cheap propaganda, aimed only at misleading their own people. Unfortunately, India continues to drag politics into cricket, damaging the very spirit of the game," Naqvi stated.

"As ACC President , I was ready to hand over the trophy that very day and I am still ready now. If they truly want it, they are welcome to come to the ACC office and collect it from me," he added.

Punishments Naqvi likely to face for taking the trophy home

As per a Times Now report, the Executive Committee of the ACC can take action against Mohsin Naqvi if a formal complaint is filed against him. The report also adds that the committee can censure him, and they have the power to remove him from his post.

The Vice-President of the BCCI, Rajiv Shukla has already threatened Naqvi and is willing to take this matter to the ICC.
