In an unfortunate turn of events, the second T20I between Australia and New Zealand is all set to be delayed due to rain. Led by Mitchell Marsh, Australia won the first T20I convincingly and are eyeing a series win by taking an unassailable lead. However, rain is expected to play spoilsport in the game, as the all-important toss has been delayed.

Mount Maunganui's history with washouts

The Bay Oval is a picturesque ground in Mount Maunganui, New Zealand. However, rain and inclement weather conditions have led to the abandonment of several international fixtures at this venue in the past.

Overall, the ground has hosted 16 T20I matches, with three games concluding without a result. The last T20I that was called off at this venue was played between New Zealand and Bangladesh back in December 2023. So, considering the ground's track record, it won't be surprising if the second T20I between Australia and New Zealand receives a similar fate and gets washed out due to rain.

Update: Although the match was reduced to 18-over per side and New Zealand opted to bowl after winning the toss, rain returned to delay the start of the game. Later, as the weather improved, the game was again reduced to 9-over per side.
