Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal will be back at Northamptonshire for the third summer in a row, taking on an even bigger role in the 2026 season. He will join the club from June and stay until the end of the season, playing in both the County Championship and the Metro Bank One-Day Cup.

Chahal has already made a big mark at the club, picking up 44 wickets in first-class games and 7 in one-day matches during his earlier stints. His performances last year were especially impressive, he took five wickets on his One-Day Cup debut against Kent and achieved his career-best figures of 9/99 in a Championship match against Derbyshire.

He ended that season with 19 wickets in just four Championship matches, helping Northamptonshire to important wins.

Northamptonshire Coach praises Yuzvendra Chahal

Head coach John Lehmann praised Chahal’s quality and experience, saying that he adds real strength to the squad. He said,

"Yuzi is a magnificent asset to this squad. His record across his career speaks for itself and he brings so much class and experience to the group. I loved working with him this year and am excited to go again in 2026."

Meanwhile, Chahal himself is excited about the return.

“I thoroughly enjoyed my time here last season so I’m very happy to be coming back.” Chahal said.“There are some great people in that dressing room, and I can’t wait to be part of that again.”

"We played some great cricket towards the back end of the season so hopefully we’re able to replicate that and big up some victories,” he added.

Notably, Northamptonshire fans can expect to see Chahal back in action from June 22, when the team faces Middlesex.

In other news, Australian fast bowler Harry Conway, another overseas signing for next season, will also return to Northamptonshire. After taking 20 wickets in just four Championship games earlier this year, he is set to play the first seven matches of the 2026 season in April and May.
