The Asia Cup 2025 is done and dusted, but the drama continues to unfold in the aftermath as India and Pakistan are still in a loggerhead over the Asia Cup winning trophy. The controversy began right after the tournament started, but it escalated during the three India vs Pakistan contests, and now the issue has turned into a political drama.
Mohsin Naqvi ran away with the Asia Cup trophy after waiting for the Indian players to collect the medal from him; however, in the latest development, it has been reported that the BCCI is set to file a serious complaint against him, and the ACC Chairman could potentially face BCCI’s wrath in the next ACC meeting.
Naqvi-BCCI tussle gets ugly as ACC Chairman faces India's wrath
According to reports by Pakistani journalist Saleem Khaliq, BCCI, the richest board is likely to move a no-confidence motion against ACC President Mohsin Naqvi, as they try to force him out of power.
The reports further added that the vote of confidence will be given by the full-member nations of the ACC - Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan. While Sri Lanka has reportedly sided with India, Bangladesh has given its full support to Pakistan, and, reportedly, Afghanistan is standing in the middle, and has not taken a final decision.
Naqvi runs away with Asia Cup trophy in ugly incident
Naqvi is the ACC Chairman and he was adamant to present the Asia Cup trophy to the Indian team. However, the Suryakumar Yadav-led side had already informed the ACC officials that they won’t collect any prize from Naqvi.
This infuriated Naqvi, who waited for the Indian side at the dias, but eventually ran away with the trophy, and it escalated the matter between India and Pakistan. Reports circulated that Naqvi had apologised to the BCCI for his unnecessary behaviour, but the PCB and ACC Chairman quashed all reports and stated that he had not apologised to anyone, and will only give away the trophy if a formal ceremony is conducted.
