Newly appointed Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Aminul Islam convened meetings yesterday at the BCB premises with head coach Phil Simmons and cricket operations chairman Nazmul Abedeen Fahim. Discussions also involved the national selection panel.

The talks followed Bangladesh's disappointing back-to-back T20I series losses in the UAE and Pakistan. The UAE defeat raised significant concerns about the team's T20I direction and resilience, while the Pakistan series, despite some positive signs in the opening batting, highlighted an inability to maintain consistent pressure on the opposition.

Test Squad Preparations And Introductory Meetings By The President

Understandably, the recent T20I performances formed a core part of the discussions. Sources indicated that "views were exchanged between the president and others on the recent two series and how to go about developing in the format."

The meeting also served as an introductory session between President Islam and the two national selectors, Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu and Abdur Razzak. Sources described these interactions as 'introductory' meetings.

Furthermore, part of the routine discussions that occur before Test squad announcements took place, involving selectors, coaches, and captains. This occurred prior to the BCB president's departure for Australia for Eid holidays. Regarding the upcoming Test squad for the Sri Lanka series, it was learned that "there was very little possibility of new faces," as quoted by The Daily Star.

The BCB is expected to announce the Test squad after the selection panel finalizes the list, marking a shift in focus from T20Is to the longer format. Bangladesh are scheduled to travel to Sri Lanka on June 13 for the two-match series, beginning on June 17 in Galle.
