Yuzvendra Chahal once again proved to be Mayank Agarwal's nemesis in the Indian Premier League as the seasoned leg-spinner dismissed the Punjab batter for the seventh time during the IPL 2025 Final between Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The summit clash is taking place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, June 3.
At the time of writing, the high-stakes final is underway with RCB reaching 80/2 in 9 overs, after being asked to bat first by the Punjab Kings skipper. But the spotlight was firmly on Yuzvendra Chahal, who not only turned the momentum with his breakthrough but also extended his remarkable personal record against Mayank Agarwal.
Chahal Laughs The Last Laugh With Mayank's Wicket
The dismissal came in the 7th over of the innings. Yuzvendra Chahal, introduced in the middle phase, tossed up a short delivery around the leg-stump. It appeared to be a flipper.
Mayank, who had settled in with 24 off 18 balls, attempted a sweep but misjudged the pace and got into the shot early. The ball took a top edge and went high toward deep backward square, where Arshdeep Singh made no mistake.
Player | Dismissals |
---|---|
Mayank Agarwal | 7 |
Quinton de Kock | 6 |
Nitish Rana | 6 |
With Chahal, dismissing Mayank Agarwal for the 7th time, the spinner has also made his mark by dismissing star batters like Quinton de Kock and Nitish Rana 6 times already.
RCB Off With A Shaky But Decent Start
After being inserted to bat, RCB lost opener Philip Salt early for 16. Virat Kohli and Mayank Agarwal stitched a 38-run stand before Chahal broke the partnership. At 80/2 in 9 overs, Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar are at the crease, building a base for a potential big finish.
Punjab’s bowlers have kept things tight barring Arshdeep Singh, who leaked 24 in his two overs. Chahal's figures read 1/17 and he appears to be in rhythm on a surface aiding spin where RCB is trying to gain back control.
