In a significant development, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan Papon has stepped down from his position amid the ongoing political unrest in the country. He has officially resigned from the role, with Faruk Ahmed succeeding him as the BCB chief.

Nazmul Hassan resigns amid political turmoil in Bangladesh

As reported earlier, Nazmul Hassan Papon was all set to step down from the BCB chief's position in order to co-operate the newly formed Bangladesh government after Sheikh Haseena's ouster.

Since the violent protests have taken the centre stage, Papon has been hiding in London with his wife and family.

"One of our directors is in touch with him and, according to him, Papon bhai is ready to cooperate (with the government) and is also prepared to quit from the President's post to bring reform in the board," a BCB official had told Cricbuzz earlier.

Papon assumed the office on 17th October 2012; so, his resignation truly marks the end of an era.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh are gearing up for a high-octane two-match Test series against a rampant Pakistani outfit in their backyard.

Both Test matches are slated to be played in Rawalpindi after the decider was moved out of Karachi owing to pre-Champions Trophy renovation works.

However, unfortunately for the fans, the start of the first Test has been delayed due to inclement weather conditions in Rawalpindi.
