The situation surrounding the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has become increasingly tense, with significant political ramifications.

In the recent reports according to CricTracker, Nazmul Hassan, the BCB president, who is in his fourth term, is reportedly prepared to step down from his position to aid in governmental reforms amidst the ongoing unrest in Bangladesh.

This unrest was sparked by student protests against the dissolved Sheikh Hasina government.

Why Is BCB President Nazmul Hassan Willing To Resign?

BCB officials claimed on Thursday (August 15) that board president Hassan is ready to quit his post to cooperate with the government to bring reform.

In the same reports it was mentioned, that Nazmul Hassan and his wife have been in hiding in London since the protests began. Other board directors with ties to the former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina are also in hiding.

"One of our directors is in touch with him and, according to him, Papon bhai is ready to cooperate (with the government) and is also prepared to quit from the President's post to bring reform in the board" a BCB director, who attended the meeting, told Cricbuzz on Thursday.

The board's current state has led to considerable debate within the Bangladeshi sports community, with former officials and organisers demanding the resignation of Nazmul and his panel.

In the reports, it was mentioned that a meeting among the remaining board directors in Dhaka took place on August 14, where they discussed their future actions as the BCB faced increasing scrutiny.

The developments could lead to significant changes within the cricket board, especially if Nazmul Hassan follows through with his offer to resign.

Amidst the current turmoil, the key question arises as to whether Bangladesh will host the Women's T20 World Cup. The BCB has requested support from India to host the prestigious tournament, but this proposal has been outrightly rejected by Jay Shah.
