Team India outclassed Pakistan for the third time in succession in the recently-concluded Asia Cup 2025 in the UAE. Chasing 147, Tilak Varma masterminded a successful heist with a sublime 69* as the ‘Men in Blue’ lifted their ninth Asia Cup title.

While the tournament produced its fair share of memorable performances, it was also marred by numerous controversies, particularly in the three high-voltage India vs Pakistan encounters that kept the spotlight burning both on and off the field.

IPL chairman regrets Asia Cup 2025 controversies

Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman Arun Dhumal recently gave his take over the controversy-marred Asia Cup 2025 in the UAE. From India and Pakistan players refusing to shake hands in their Group A game on September 14 to PCB and ACC chief Mohsin Naqvi walking away with the Asia Cup trophy and winning medals, Dhumal felt that such incidences should not have occurred at all.

While speaking with the IANS, he said:

“Many things happened that, in my opinion, should not have occurred on the sporting field, but they did. Now, we should not dwell on what has already happened.”

Arun Dhumal also congratulated the Suryakumar Yadav-led Indian team for maintaining an unbeaten run to clinch the 2025 Asia Cup. Addressing India’s dominance in some of the last few multi-nation tournaments (Asia Cup and 2024 T20 World Cup), the cricket administrator even described Team India the number one T20I side in the world. He added:

“Reaching the top is very easy, but maintaining that position is a very difficult task. India was the No. 1 team in T20s, and the way they performed brilliantly throughout the tournament, winning all their matches convincingly, I want to congratulate the Indian team for that. Special congratulations to Suryakumar Yadav and all the team members who played outstanding cricket. By winning the championship, they have shown the world that they are the best team in the world.”

Team India will now face West Indies in a two-match Test series at home. The first of the two Tests will be hosted by Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium between October 2 and October 6.
